Tommi Brem is a self employed curator, artist and author. 2008 he was involved in the launch of „Independent Collectors“, a social network for collectors of contemportary art. Since that year he is also collecting art himself and he will use the opportunity of Kunst Schimmer to present parts of his collection.
„I'm not going around, looking specifically for dots. But then I end up buying some anyway.“ The last dots he added to his collection came in the form of the work „Red Dots“ by the dutch artist Mieke Fokkinga, who had submitted the drawing to Kunstfahrschule. The dots stand for the way in which cities are represented on maps and symbolize the desorientation the artist exoperiences when trying to find her way around a map.
„Red Dots“ is a bunch of red dots on a sheet of paper. But there is also a very lonely dot, the „End Point of Time Machine“, the last full stop of the novel by H. G. Wells, from the „End Points“ series by belgian artist Kris Martin. „48.085“ is the title of a work by Stuttgart-based artist Rudolf Reiber. It's also the number of dots he fitted on 49 individual drawings.
Also on display will be works by Carine Weve (Netherlands), Lasse Schmidt Hansen (Berlin), Josh McNey (USA) and others.
You can create art, you can look at art. You can also live with art. But you shouldn't be scared of the possibility that the works you buy raise more questions than you average flowery print available at IKEA. Which is collecting dust in 4 million other households aroud the globe as well. Maybe you will be considered a lunatic when you spend a month's salary on a tiny dot. You simply have to shrug it off.
The exhibition DOT DOT DOT is meant to encourage people to buy art for their homes. If this guy can collect dots, then I might actually dare purchasing an illustration, a great photograph or maybe even a sculpture.

PUNKT PUNKT PUNKT. Ausgewählte Werke aus der Sammlung Brem.

Tommi Brem ist freischaffender Kurator, Künstler und Autor. 2008 betreute er den Launch der Plattform „Independent Collectors“, einer Art Facebook für Sammler zeitgenössischer Kunst. Seit dieser Zeit ist Brem auch selbst Sammler und nutzt die Gelegenheit des Kunst Schimmer, um Teile seiner Sammlung zu präsentieren.
„Es ist nicht so, als würde ich bewusst nach Punkten suchen. Aber dann hab ich doch wieder welche gekauft.“ Die letzten Punkte fügte Brem bei der Kunstfahrschule 2013 seiner Sammlung hinzu. Die „Red Dots“ der niederländischen Künstlerin Mieke Fokkinga. Ein Haufen roter Punkte, die symbolisch für die Städte auf Landkarten stehen und für die Desorientierung, welche die Künstlerin empfindet, wenn sie versucht, sich auf Landkarten zurecht zu finden.
„Red Dots“, das sind viele rote Punkte auf kleinem Raum. Es gibt auch einen einsamen Punkt, den „End Point of Time Machine“, der letzte Punkt des Romans von H.G. Wells, stammend aus der „End Points“ Reihe des belgischen Künstlers Kris Martin. „48.085“ … das ist Titel eines Werkes des in Stuttgart lebenden Künstlers Rudolf Reiber. Es ist auch die Anzahl der Punkte, die Reiber auf 49 Einzelzeichnungen untergebracht hat.
Ebenfalls zu sehen sein werden Arbeiten von Carine Weve (Niederlande), Lasse Schmidt Hansen (Berlin), Josh McNey (USA) und anderen.
Man kann Kunst machen, man kann Kunst anschauen. Man kann aber auch mit Kunst leben. Nur darf man sich nicht davon abschrecken lassen, dass diese Werke vielleicht erklärungsbedürftiger oder schwiegermutteruntauglicher sind, als irgendwelche Blumenbilder, die man bei IKEA bekommt. Und die dann in 4 Millionen anderen Haushalten auch einstauben. Mag sein, dass man für verrückt gehalten wird, wenn man ein Monatsgehalt für einen lumpigen Punkt ausgibt. Aber das muss einem einfach egal sein.
Die Schau PUNKT PUNKT PUNKT soll Mut machen, selbst Kunst zu kaufen. Nach dem Motto: Wenn jemand guten Gewissens Punkte sammeln kann, dann traue ich mich auch, eine Illustration, eine tolle Fotografie oder vielleicht sogar eine Skulptur zu kaufen.
